Hello – Social Discovery & Chat App

The Vision

Hello is a mobile-native platform designed to bridge the gap between digital interaction and real-world connection. Unlike traditional social media that focuses on passive scrolling, Hello is built to foster lasting friendships through shared hobbies and common interests, providing a safe space for young adults to find community.

Login & Onboarding

The entry point is designed to be as low-friction as possible. Using a clean, centered layout with a warm color palette, the login screen sets a welcoming tone. The branding is front-and-center, with clear paths for new users to sign up or existing members to return to their community.

Explore & Discovery

The Explore page is the heart of the discovery process. I designed a card-based layout that allows users to find groups based on their specific location and interests—from local NYC hangouts to niche hobby groups like ‘Cafe Pala.’ This geographic and interest-based filtering helps users move from ‘online chat’ to ‘real-world meetups.

Events & Engagement

To combat the isolation of standard social apps, the Events page allows users to see what’s ‘Happening near you.’ These high-fidelity cards showcase the community aspect of the app, highlighting attendee counts and clear ‘Attend’ calls-to-action to encourage offline participation in hobby-based gatherings.

Chat & Communication Architecture

The chat interface prioritizes clarity and group interaction. I designed a bubble-style messaging system that clearly identifies contributors, making large group conversations easy to follow. The integrated ‘Poll’ and ‘Create Event’ features within the chat menu allow friendships to move naturally from conversation to planning.

Group Management

The ‘Add Members’ and ‘Group Creation’ flow is built for speed and simplicity. I utilized a familiar list-based selection tool with clear confirmation states, allowing users to quickly assemble their ‘Karaoke Club’ or study group and start building connections immediately.

Project Conclusion

Hello addresses the rising rates of digital depression by replacing “likes” with “links.” By focusing on shared activities and local discovery, the app provides a functional tool for young adults to find people who actually care about the same things they do.
